My name is Marion Burns and I have Cerebral Palsy. I am going to explain how I got involved with the Paisley Men’s Shed.
In 2021, I was in my Doctors Surgery in the quiet waiting-room, I was there with my mum . There was this man sitting across from us. We started talking , mum and me found the conversation fascinating as the man was chatting about how he was making fairy doors , we haven’t heard of anyone making fairy doors or even knew what they were! Mum kept this man in her head as he was talking about how he was involved with the Paisley Men’ Shed.
Due to having cerebral palsy I always need things made for me to make it easier for me. I use a special keyboard called an Intellikeys Keyboard to access my computer. I had a stand for my keyboard which my dad made for me. I also use little wooden sticks as a tool to access my keyboard and my communication aid.
The stand for my keyboard was getting old and really needed replaced, so in January I contacted Paisley Men’s Shed to see if they could make me a stand for my Intellikeys and wooden sticks. The woman who I got in contact with joked “they like a challenge and I’m sure they are sick of making bird boxes”
A man called Richard came along to my house to see what I would require. It was funny Richard was the same guy we had met in the Doctors Surgery.
Richard measured my other sticks and my stand checking on angles . He made a few visits to the house to check the exact measurements
Just last week my new stand was complete and beautifully painted white.
Thanks to the Paisley Men’s Shed especially Richard for all your time and effort to make me two important items in my life.
